Waidim is a village formed by administrative division. Its parent village was Samate, which was later split into several villages, among them Waidim, Kapatlap, Jefman Barat, Jefman Timur, and Wamega.

The Salawati language
The Salawati language, also called Maden, is a chain of dialects including Tepin, Wail, Fiat or Fiawat, Rajau, and Butlih. It has an estimated 600 speakers and is classed as vulnerable to endangered. The Tepin dialect is recorded in Kampung Kapatlap. Available sources do not say which dialect is spoken in Waidim.

The clan names on record
The clan names appearing among Waidim’s officials are Parajal, Klasin, Rembu, Aibah, Sanadi, Ngodiho, Mugu, Djaman Mona, Subay, and Abidondifu. Of these ten, Sanadi and Abidondifu are documented as Biak clan names. The other eight we could not find in any published list of Papuan clans, and their origins are left to local custodians of custom rather than to guesswork.

The Moi people inhabit the eastern part of Salawati Island, while the Tepin are described as indigenous to the island’s northern coast. From around the fifteenth century, Biak people from Cenderawasih Bay also migrated and settled in Raja Ampat’s coastal villages.

Schools in the divided villages
According to Dukcapil Kemendagri data as of 30 June 2023, each of the divided villages in North Salawati, Waidim among them, has a primary and a junior secondary school. Senior secondary and vocational schools exist only in Kampung Samate. The statement applies to that group of villages; we found no source naming a school in Waidim itself.
